Time for a little travel, close to home and beyond

“You don’t really have to move to be a traveller. You just have to look around you.”

Italian architect and designer Paola Navone

I've always loved October because the weather is cooler and the days not yet busy with holiday gatherings. It's the perfect time to do a little exploring in our own corner of the world, which is just what we hope to do this weekend. My husband and I take such pleasure in rediscovering old haunts and showing them to our kids, who never fail to appreciate them with such enthusiasm that my husband and I feel that we are new visitors as well.

I also plan to take some time to cozy up with a new book I found just last week, "A Stranger Among Us," a collection of short stories by writers from around the world edited by Stacy Bierlein. I imagine I'll do plenty of armchair traveling as a result.

What will you be doing? Will you be staying close to home or doing any armchair traveling via books or a movie?

Warmly,

It is Thanksgiving here in Canada, so I will be spending the weekend with family here for dinner. My favourite thing is having both my kids home and under my roof again.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Your weekend sounds lovely. Exploring our own backyard is so fun, and each time we set out to do so, we ask ourselves why we don't take the time to do it more often.

This weekend, for us, will be a busy one. I'm having a dinner party for my mom's birthday tonight, so the day will be filled with prepping, as was yesterday {wish me luck!}.

And tomorrow, we're going 'apple picking' with friends! I haven't been since I was a child, and I'm very excited for my kids to experience this fall pleasure as well. ...and of course, to have lots of apples to cook with!

Have a wonderful weekend:).

making applesauce - after a visit to the local "barn" (which offers hayrides, picking your own berries, a petting zoo, and a huge pile of pumpkins)...
you were in my BYW e-course & I remembered you & your family were interested in books - I mentioned in a post that I would try to find the link for the blogger who posts pictures of books she reads (& collects) - here is the link:

Enjoy!

Thanks for the great reminder to enjoy everything on the back doorstep! I'd love to hear what things you did.

We went to the beach today and I'm kicking myself for not having made that that more of a priority all summer. Three hours at the beach was the equivalent of an expensive massage and probably two hours of therapy. So refreshed!

We've also been catching up on all the TiVo-ed movies this week, finally. Has been fun, even if we only get through half of one before one of us falls asleep. :)
